Music returns to Dark Street..

Updated: Sep 14, 2022

iDeA Architects transform a redundant historic cellar into a new recording studio.

Recording in the finished studio.

Like a number of our projects at the time, Dark Street Studios, in Haverfordwest was delayed by the Covid 19 pandemic , but we are pleased that it is now complete and open to the public.

The idea to convert an old vaulted cellar into a recording studio was the brain-child of owner Jerry Evans. We worked with Jerry to create a great new use for the vaulted cellar in what was once a folk club under Swales record shop, back in the day.

The new use required acoustic and fire separation, as well as air-conditioning in a very minimal space, making the technical solutions somewhat challenging. Ventilation ducting and mechanical plant are concealed, routed in sculpturally shaped ceiling panels overhead. Raised floors and isolated dampers at partition heads provide acoustic separation from the structure to limit the passage of sound.

Here are a few construction phase and after photographs showing the progress of the isolated floor platforms and the soundproof control room. It was a privilege to actually get to use the facilities when The DT Band (Kevin Sims Thompson and Roger D'Arcy) got together last September to record 'When the blues get you'
